On Friday night, Steve Yzerman made his first draft pick as general manager of the Detroit Red Wings as he selected defenseman Moritz Seider at No. 6.

The pick was immediately called the first big surprise of the draft and many fans believe Yzerman reached with pick saying he should have traded back instead.
According to a report from Max Bultman of The Athletic, the Red Wings did, in fact, consider trading back for Seider.

Though the exact trade scenario is not specified by Bultman, it is interesting that Yzerman may have been able to trade back and still land Seider but decided to pull the trigger at No. 6.
