Report suggests Detroit Lions are ‘going to move on’ from Matthew Stafford

Will Matthew Stafford be the quarterback for the Detroit Lions by the time the 2021 season begins?

That is a huge question that will be answered soon enough

Well, according to former NFL All-Pro Chad Brown, the Lions are planning on parting ways with Stafford.

Brown, who is an announcer and host on 104.3 The Fan in Denver, is reporting that sources of his have told him the Lions are “going to move on” from Stafford during the coming offseason.

“The Lions are open for business, there’s no doubt about that in my mind. The ability to get Matt Stafford is out there. I haven’t spent much time looking into what it’s going to take to make that happen, but I know the Lions are going to move on.”

“I am absolutely certain of that (the Lions moving on from Stafford), yes. I’ve had conversations — I have birdies too. They are looking to start over. It hasn’t worked.”

Nation, do you think the Lions should move on from Matthew Stafford?

  1. Fake news….I do not believe it unless they figure the cap issues…I thought cap hit moving him next year 23mil dead $$$? If so no way can you do it…

  2. Would be pretty dumb if you ask me, even if they want to draft another QB. It would be smart to let the rookie sit behind Matthew Stafford just like Miami did, and bring him off the bench if needed. Besides it would be much more cheaper to keep him, and in my opinion there is no reason to move on from him, its the defensive side that has hurt the team more.

  3. They haven’t hired a GM yet. Who made that decision? If I was interviewed by the Lions and they weren’t going to let me make the decision about Stafford, I wouldn’t take the job.

  4. This guy has one of the three best arms in the game. If they use capital to improve O & D lines, get corners that get run by like rusty gates and Lbackers that have speed to cover pass or plug run gaps. It’s a TEAM game don’t piss away the key player that you NEED. This Detroit story needs to end like Kaline. Yzerman Thomas…

  5. Matthew Stafford wants to play for a team that can actually win. He has too much talent to not have been in the Super Bowl.

  6. I would love to see Detroit do something smart, but moving on from Stafford is not what I call smart. There are 2 great QB’s in Lions history and one of them is Stafford. He has all the passing records for the Lions and is the quickest QB in NFL history to hit 30,000 and now 40,000 yards. He can throw the ball and has great arm strength that should last at least 5-10 more years. However, the Lions haven’t done well to give Stafford what he needs to help them win. If the Lions decide to trade him away this is my worst fear: The other great QB Detroit had played at the same High School Stafford played at (Highland Park in Dallas). Bobby Layne will always be up at the top due to his guiding the Lions to 4 Conference titles and 3 NFL Championships! What did Detroit do with him? They traded him after they won the 1957 NFL title!! Rumor and fact is that Detroit has suffered ever since then due to the Layne curse. The Lions are one of the worst losing courses in the past 63 YEARS!! My parents have both lived and died and never got to see the Lions go to a Super Bowl, I’m 53 and it is as if the same will happen to me. If the Lions want to do something good, then build a great team around Stafford! Don’t let him move on or as Barry and Calvin did retire before they were truly done. Matt is still young so let’s give him a reason to stay playing as long as Brady has but keep him playing in Detroit! And for God’s sake get him an offensive line to protect him and keep him healthy!!!
