Will the Detroit Lions ever hire a good head coach?
That is a question many of us have been asking for our entire lives and we continue to ask now as we watch Matt Patricia run the team further into the ground.

But what would you say if we told you that an eventual Super Bowl Champion head coach wanted to come to the Lions but was turned down?
Well, according to former Detroit News writer Terry Foster, Super Bowl Champion head coach Tony Dungy wanted to coach the Lions but he was denied.

When asked to shed some light regarding Dungy, Foster added that he wanted to coach the Lions before he was hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dungy was hired by the Buccaneers prior to the start of the 1996 season, which just so happened to be Wayne Fonte’s final season with the Lions.
As we know, Dungy eventually went on to win a Super Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts.
