On Sunday, a report surfaced that prior to being traded to the Los Angeles Rams, Matthew Stafford told the Detroit Lions that he did not want to be traded to the New England Patriots.
Well according to a report from Chris Simms, Stafford also nixed a blockbuster trade to the Carolina Panthers.
“He kind of squashed the Carolina thing,” Simms said on PFT Live on Monday morning.
On the Stafford trade subject, @CSimmsQB said on PFT Live this morning that Stafford nixed a trade to Carolina. It's about 10 minutes into this clip. "He kind of squashed the Carolina thing." https://t.co/4ZI0AFr6le

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Panthers offered the Lions the No. 8 overall pick in the 2021 draft “and then some” for Stafford.
Both Washington and Carolina had offered their first-round picks and then some. The Panthers’ first-rounder is eighth (that wound up being the highest pick offered) and their proposal came with a later pick. Washington packaged a third-round pick with the 19th pick.
It sure is sounding like Stafford may have had quite the say as to where he would or would not be traded.
