The Detroit Tigers are continuing the search for their new manager following the retirement of Ron Gardenhire near the end of the shortened 2020 season.

Several names have been tossed into the ring of candidates, including New York Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza and hitting coach Marcus Thames, a former Tigers slugger.

And now you can count a member of the coaching staff of the Atlanta Braves, who just came within a game of advancing to the 2020 World Series.

According to Tigers writer Jason Beck, the Tigers have interviewed Braves catching coach Sal Fasano for their open manager’s position:

Fasano appeared in 427 career major league games and posted a batting average of.221 with 47 home runs and 140 RBI.

After his playing career, Fasano took a job with the Lansing Lugnuts, the Single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. He later earned. Double-A Manager of the Year for leading the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. He took over as catching coach for the Braves in 2017.

Marcus Thames, who currently serves as hitting coach of the New York Yankees, has met with Detroit Tigers management regarding their managerial opening, as reported by Tony Paul of The Detroit News:

Thames and the Yankees had their season ended by the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday.

Appearing mostly in left field and as a designated hitter, Thames blasted 115 home runs and 301 RBIs during his MLB career, which ran from 2002 to 2011.

He appeared in 485 career games with the Tigers, and also had stints with the Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Texas Rangers.
