After a long day in the Bronx on Wednesday due to weather, the Detroit Tigers managed to escape with a series victory against the New York Yankees. Now they make the short trek south to Baltimore and get ready for a four-game series against the Orioles.
And according to sources, they may be bringing in some reinforcements for the bullpen this weekend. Reports are that veteran Edward Mujica is being promoted from Triple-A Toledo prior to Thursday’s game.

The Tigers signed the 33-year-old native of Venezuela to a minor league deal this past winter. He failed the make the big league club out of spring and was one of many journeyman major league veterans playing with the Toledo Mud Hens this season.
Mujica though has been very good for Toledo in 2017. In 46 appearances, he’s logged a 2.35 ERA and a WHIP of exactly 1.00. The command has been very good for Mujica as well, posting a K:BB ratio of better than 5 to 1. He’s also converted on 12 of 17 save opportunities. And he’s been pretty dominant as of late.

The 10-year major league veteran has played in nearly 500 games at the big league level for six different teams, most recently with the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics in 2015. Mujica in his major league career has compiled a very adequate 3.85 ERA, primarily in a set-up role. He has just 50 career saves, 37 of which came in 2013 when he earned All-Star honors with the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Tigers have yet to confirm this move and there is no corresponding move reported yet either. Detroit recalled youngster Joe Jimenez on Monday, along with catcher John Hicks, after the team traded reliever Justin Wilson and catcher Alex Avila the night before to the Chicago Cubs.
