REPORT: Tom Gores and Dan Gilbert bringing MLS team to Detroit

Soccer fans in the Metro Detroit area should be very excited.

According to Vincent Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert are teaming up to bring a Major League Soccer team to Detroit.

On Tuesday afternoon, Gilbert and Gores exchanged some interesting tweets.

Oddly enough, Gilbert’s Cavs just finished sweeping Gilbert’s Pistons in the NBA Playoffs.

From Vince Ellis:

“The plan includes building a soccer stadium at a still-to-be-determined site. A person with knowledge of the situation who is not authorized to speak publicly says that the abandoned Wayne County jail site on Gratiot near Greektown is the No. 1 option, although the site remains under county control.

Other possible sites include land near the Detroit riverfront or the Corktown area.”
