Rip Hamilton: Pistons left two or three titles on the table

Former Detroit Pistons guard Richard “Rip” Hamilton joined Sports Illustrated to discuss his iconic mask that he wore to protect his face during his NBA career, as well as his thoughts on whether or not the Pistons should have won additional championships.

Of course, their iconic title in 2004 stunned the sports world, and the team advanced to six consecutive Eastern Conference Finals berths, but the closest they came to another championship was the 2005 NBA Finals, losing in seven games and just missing out on a repeat.

Does Hamilton think the team should have won more titles?

“I say that all the time, I think we left some on the table. I mean it’s cool to have one, and there’s a lot of great athletes that played the game for a long time, especially in the NBA and Hall of Fame players that never got an opportunity to win a world championship. You’re grateful to get one, but boy oh boy. We all text each other to this day twice a week. We say, “Man, we left two or three on the table…..at every position we could guard and score, we left two or three on the table.”

Of course, he also talked about his iconic mask.
