Robbie Grossman explains walk-off suicide squeeze

Robbie Grossman was the hero for the Detroit Tigers this afternoon, laying down a bunt in the bottom of the 10th inning that brought home the lightning-fast Akil Baddoo and delivering a walk-off victory in front of thousands of fans at Comerica Park.

He explained his thought process during what turned out to be the winning play, and admitted that it didn’t quite go the way that he pictured it – but all that matters was the win.

“We went over a couple of situations right before I went up to the plate…I got the sign from Chip (Hale). I didn’t put it where I wanted, but I’m glad I got it down and got it to the pitcher’s hands. Akil with his speed scored, and here we are.”

Of course, Grossman already has a walk-off home run this season, but this was a career first.

“I would imagine so,” he responded with a smile when asked if it was his first ever walk-off bunt. “I’m just glad I could help the team win. I[‘m grinding a little bit right now, but tomorrow’s a new day, and I’m glad I did something to help the team win today.”
