A familiar name with deep Michigan roots is headed to a new NFL sideline.
According to a report from Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Tennessee Titans are hiring San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as their next head coach. The move gives Saleh another opportunity to lead an NFL franchise after previously serving as head coach of the New York Jets from 2021–2024.
Saleh, a Dearborn, Michigan native and Fordson High School graduate, has built an impressive coaching résumé over the past two decades. After beginning his career in college football at Michigan State, Central Michigan, Georgia, and Northern Michigan, he worked his way through the NFL with stops in Houston, Seattle, Jacksonville, San Francisco, and New York.
He most recently returned to the 49ers in 2025 as their defensive coordinator, reuniting with a system that helped him earn a reputation as one of the league’s top defensive minds during San Francisco’s Super Bowl run earlier in his career.
Now, Saleh will take over a Titans team looking for a culture reset and defensive identity, bringing his trademark intensity and leadership to Nashville, and giving Michigan football fans another hometown success story to root for at the NFL’s highest level.
