According to Rochester Community Schools superintendent Robert Shaner, a Rochester Adams student-athlete has tested positive for COVID-19 and all athletic workouts have been canceled until further notice.
In an email that was sent to parents in the district and obtained by Detroit Sports Nation, Shaner said the student-athlete tested positive at a medical facility after first performing a health screening with a temperature check on themself.
Here is an excerpt from the email which was sent to parents in the district.
We just received notice that an Adams High School student athlete responsibly performed a health screening with a temperature check, even though the student was asymptomatic at the time. The parent then took the student to a health facility to test for COVID-19. The preliminary test indicated positive results, which have since been confirmed by the Oakland County Health Division (OCHD).
The parent immediately contacted other families whose student may have come in contact with their peer. The district is also following up with personal phone calls and letters to ensure all families are properly notified of the situation.
The safety of our community is always our priority. We are working closely with the OCHD and our school nurse to ensure the well-being of our students, staff, and families.
All AHS athletic workouts will be cancelled until further notice so the OCHD can conduct contact tracing and the exposed facilities can be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. We will notify families when athletic practices can resume.
This news comes nine days after Shaner notified parents that one of Rochester Adams’ football coaches had tested positive for COVID-19.
