Rod Wood discusses when Detroit Lions will replace Matthew Stafford

At some point, the Detroit Lions will have to replace Matthew Stafford. Whether that time is now or in the future, there will come a point where that will be what is best for the organization.

Many are convinced the Lions should have selected a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft and now there are seemingly even more voices calling for the team to select Stafford’s replacement in 2021.

On Friday, Lions team president Rod Wood spoke about when the Lions will select a quarterback in the draft and he said that move will be made when it is best for the team.

“The selection that we made (of Jeff Okudah) was based upon what we thought was the best thing for the Detroit Lions this season,” team president Rod Wood said Friday morning during an interview on 97.1 The Ticket. “Whether a quarterback gets drafted next year or the year after, will be the decision we make that’s the best for the Detroit Lions next year or the year after.

“I know there’s a lot of speculation about the quarterbacks that were taken and the quarterbacks that we didn’t take, and Matthew’s health and his age. But he’s our quarterback, and he’s still playing at a very high level. But we’ll eventually have to make a decision about drafting somebody, and when we do we’ll have hopefully the right team in place to evaluate those quarterbacks at the time and make the right pick for the Detroit Lions.”
Nation, when do you think the Lions should replace Stafford? Should they select a QB in the 2021 NFL Draft?
