NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has spoken about the controversy in Monday night’s game between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers.
During the conclusion of the NFL owners meetings in Florida, he was asked to address the latest incident in a long-running saga of poor officiating, capped by the Lions getting the short end of the stick once again.
Q: “What are your personal feelings when you see a game like Monday night where there are some pretty clear missed calls that impact one team, and what’s your level of confidence in (Senior VP of Officiating) Al Riveron to work out whatever issues may exist right now with the officials?”

A: “Officiating is always a focus for us,” Goodell answered. “I joke, but I’m not joking: I think I’m close to 40 years [in the league], and I think there’s always a two- or three-week period where there’s an intense focus on it. But, listen, you never want to see a game where people are talking about officials afterwards. It was a great football game played by two great teams. … It’s tough. It’s tough to be in that situation.”
Troy Vincent, the NFL VP of Operations, has already come out and said that one hands to the face flag thrown on Detroit’s Trey Flowers during the Packers’ game-winning drive wasn’t the correct call.
