Ron Gardenhire is no longer the manager of the Detroit Tigers.

On Saturday, Gardenhire told Tigers’ GM Al Avila that he had made the decision to retire from baseball and that he would not be waiting any longer to do so.

Avila and Gardenhire held a virtual press conference to make it official and after Avila made the announcement, Gardenhire spent some time talking to reporters.

One reporter asked Gardy what his favorite moment was as Tigers’ manager and his response may surprise you.

Gardenhire told reporters that his favorite moment was when former Tigers’ DH Victor Martinez legged out an infield hit in his last at-bat.

“Watching him run down the line, I still get choked up about it, seeing him smile like that. That meant everything in the world. That’s a memory I will never forget,” Gardy told reporters.

Though we really wish Gardy would have managed the Tigers into the future, we certainly understand his reasoning for walking away from baseball and we wish him nothing but the best.
