As if the the Detroit Pistons needed another hit of bad news, they happen to be heading to Utah to face a Jazz team that has been absolutely rolling of late, in large thanks to young guy in the middle with a 9’7” standing reach.

The Jazz are 9-2 since inserting second year center Rudy Gobert into their starting lineup, and his dominant presence may give the likes of Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe a run for their money. A native of France, Gobert is averaging 10.5 points, 14 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game over the course of his team’s 11 game streak.

Moreover, Gobert’s emergence has yielded no shortage of wonderfully awful nicknames, including but limited to:

  • The Stifle Tower
  • The French Rejection
  • The Gobert Report
  • Gobzilla
  • Bloque Cousteau

Add to that former Michigan man Trey Burke fully adapting to his new role of providing an offensive spark off the bench, Utah’s run matched with the Pistons’ recent and still ongoing nine-game slide could make for a potentially rough situation this evening.
