RUMOR: Red Wings in the running to land Michigan native defenseman?

The Detroit Red Wings have already been linked to native Michigan defenseman Jacob Trouba of the Winnipeg Jets, but could they also have their sights set on another Mitten native?

According to NHL Trade Rumors, NBC's Pierre McGuire believes the Red Wings could soon make a move for Boston Bruins defenseman Tory Krug:

“In McGuire's report, he stated that Krug will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, 2020 and he is looking for a big contract. McGuire believes that Krug will use pending UFA Erik Karlsson's upcoming contract as leverage when he goes to sign his.

McGuire believes that the Detroit Red Wings are the only front-runners as of now and that Detroit GM Steve Yzerman doesn't care what it takes to either acquire him or sign him. Yzerman is reportedly patient enough to wait until Krug becomes an UFA, and would be willing to trade for the right price.”

We know that Steve Yzerman isn't afraid to make shrewd moves, could this be on his to-do list?
