If you have been paying any attention at all to the Deshaun Watson relationship with the Houston Texans, it makes it pretty easy to believe the rumors floating around that he wants to be traded before the 2021 season.
According to Pro Football Talk, if Watson is available for a trade, the Detroit Lions are among the teams what “could clamor to get him.”
From Pro Football Talk:
Rumors already are circulating, and we’ve already heard them from multiple different people, that Watson has quietly broached with teammates the possibility of requesting a trade. If that’s happening, it may just be a strategic effort to ensure his views are respected by ownership. Regardless, it raises the stakes and crosses a bridge and potentially sets the foundation for Watson eventually to decide that he’d like to continue his career elsewhere.
It’s too early to think about where he’d potentially be traded. It’s not too early to make a list of teams that would possibly clamor to get him. The Patriots, Steelers, Colts, Raiders, Broncos, Washington, Eagles, Bears, Lions, Saints, Panthers, Falcons, Buccaneers (if Tom Brady is one and done), and 49ers are the most obvious.
Nation, there is no question about it that Watson is a solid QB, but is he worth the $40 and $42 million cap hits he could cost in 2022 and 2023? Not to mention, the Lions would likely have to give up Stafford, their first-round pick, and more just to make the trade happen?
There are people out there writing about how the Lions could make this happen. Please, I am begging you, do not listen to them. There is absolutely ZERO chance that the Lions trade for Deshaun Watson.
