However, the competitiveness was put on pause in the 5th inning following a nasty collision in the outfield between A's left fielder Chad Pinder and shortstop Elvis Andrus, as both were trying to catch a bloop single from Detroit's Willi Castro.

Both players were immediately attended to by team personnel, and after a brief delay, both would eventually appear no worse for wear and would elect to stay in the game.
