Schools who have benefited from conference realignment

With the newest college season on the horizon, we decided to re-analyze the biggest catalyst of college sports in the last decade; conference realignment. There have been seismic effects of the realignment process and some schools have truly thrived with the new changes. Newer schools in the realm of both college football and college basketball have come into the public conscience like TCU and Xavier.

The topic continues to churn in the college football mill today, with conversation buzzing most around the Big 12 Conference and whether or not they will be adding teams in the near future. It’s been rumored that the University of Central Florida has been in contact with the Big 12 brass this off-season about potentially joining the league. This came on the heels after the conference announced it was bringing back a conference championship game in 2017. Other schools being talked about a lot include BYU and the University of Houston, but nothing is set in stone.

So with that in mind, we decided to look back at the major conference realignment moves that occurred in recent years to see which schools have exceeded expectations and seemingly made a smooth transition:
