Believe it or not, there was a brief moment in time where many Detroit Lions fans were actually a fan of former QB Scott Mitchell. After all, Mitchell did toss for 4,338 yards and 32 TDs while helping to lead the team to a 10-6 record in 1995.
But the love for Mitchell quickly faded as his play on the field was abysmal for his remaining time in the Motor City.
One person who was not a fan of Mitchell’s play was former Lions head coach Bobby Ross, who benched Mitchell after just two games of the 1998 season.
Those were Mitchell’s final two starts with the Lions and he eventually went on to play with the Ravens and then the Bengals.
Mitchell recently joined a couple of his former teammates, Herman Moore and Lomas Brown, on their “Breaking Bread with Herman and Lomas” show and he revealed that he actually planned at getting back at Ross by chucking a football at him.
A couple of seasons later, during a preseason game, Mitchell devised a plan to get revenge on Ross for benching him but he did not follow through.
“I had schemed in my head that I was going to, on a certain down, I was going to drop back and I was going to throw the ball right at Bobby Ross,” Mitchell told Moore and Brown. “I’m dead serious about this, I was so mad.”
Just imagine if Mitchell would have actually gone through with his plan! Something tells us that he may have gained a few fans back by drilling Bobby Ross right in the chops with a football.
