The Chicago Blackhawks (2-3-1) now have two straight victories over the Detroit Red Wings after having started the 2020-21 season winless in their first four games.
Meanwhile, the Red Wings (2-4-0) looked far too much like last year’s squad that dropped 49 games.
Chicago picked apart Detroit this afternoon at United Center, winning by a 6-2 final score. Pius Suter scored three goals for his first career hat trick, Patrick Kane had two assists, and goaltender Kevin Lankinen made 25 saves.
Tyler Bertuzzi scored twice for Detroit, who were without several players on the COVID-19 protocol list. Goaltender Jonathan Bernier made 29 saves.
Robby Fabbri, Sam Gagner, Filip Zadina, Jon Merrill, Adam Erne and Darren Helm were all absent.
It wasn’t the best afternoon for Anthony Mantha, who committed two key defensive errors leading directly to Chicago scoring twice.
Detroit will look to rebound and get back into the win column Tuesday night in Dallas.
