The Pittsburgh Steelers are waking up to unsettling news out of Dublin, Ireland, where backup quarterback Skylar Thompson was jumped and robbed Friday night. The incident occurred just two days before the Steelers take on the Minnesota Vikings in the first NFL regular-season game ever played in Ireland.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Thompson suffered only minor injuries and is already back with the team. The 28-year-old, who is currently on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, was reportedly shaken but okay after the ordeal.
Steelers Respond
The Steelers acknowledged the situation in a brief statement, saying:
“We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin. We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”
For now, it appears the team, and the league, are treating the matter seriously, working with local authorities and NFL security officials.
