4-star Ohio RB LJ Scott commits to Michigan State

With news surfacing over the last few days about Jim Harbaugh planning out his recruits for the Michigan Wolverines, the Michigan State Spartans needed to make some noise of their own. On Wednesday, February 4th, Hubbard High School (OH) standout Larry Scott Jr. will officially sign his letter of intent to play for head coach Mark Dantonio in East Lansing next season.

Scott, who is listed as 6’1″, 230 lbs, is ranked in the top 10 as a runningback by a number of recruiting sites. including #6 by Rivals.com, #7 by 247Sports.com, and #8 by Scout.com.  This makes the 18th recruit to commit to Michigan State for the upcoming 2015 season.

There have been a lot of positives things to say about Scott, who prefers to go by LJ. One director for 247Sports.com had this to say on Scott:

“He’s got a chance to be the most productive running back in this entire class based on his ability, which is outstanding, and then where he’s going — Michigan State has a track record with running backs,” said Steve Wiltfong, director of recruiting for 247Sports.com.

“When you go back in four years and look back on it, LJ could be the best of the bunch (of backs) in this class, especially considering the fit,” said Allen Trieu, Midwest recruiting analyst for Scout.com. “You have to assess these players on their individual talent, but you also have to assess where they’re going. I think with his skill set and what he does with his size, he’s the perfect fit for Michigan State. Le’Veon Bell is an obvious and easy comparison to make. But they really are very, very similar.”

That is a pretty strong comparison. Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell is just one of the handful of running backs to have successful careers at MSU since 2000 alone. The Spartans sure could use some runningback help too, with the graduations of Jeremy Langford and Nick Hill.
