Spencer Torkelson and the Detroit Tigers have avoided arbitration, agreeing to a one-year, $4.075 million contract for the 2026 season, according to a report from Evan Petzold.

Torkelson, who is entering his first year of arbitration eligibility, is coming off a productive 2025 campaign in which he posted 31 home runs, 78 RBIs, and a 117 OPS+, while recording 2.3 WAR. The 26-year-old continues to provide Detroit with right-handed power in the middle of the lineup while remaining a key long-term piece of the organization.

The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft has shown steady growth at the major league level, with 80 career home runs across four seasons. While his batting average has fluctuated, his on-base skills and power output have kept him firmly entrenched as the Tigers’ everyday first baseman.

By settling ahead of arbitration, Detroit maintains cost certainty for 2026 while keeping Torkelson under team control through 2028, with free agency looming in 2029. Like the recent Riley Greene deal, this agreement reflects the Tigers’ preference for locking in their young core without arbitration risk.
