Before we begin, let me be absolutely clear about something. Just because Matt Patricia is one of the worst Detroit Lions coaches in franchise history does NOT mean the team should have kept Jim Caldwell.
Was Caldwell more successful than Patricia? Sure, but my 8-year-old son would be more successful than Patricia has been with the talent he has been given by general manager, Bob Quinn.
Caldwell had more talent but could not get the team over the hump, so it was the correct decision to move on. Unfortunately, the Lions moved on to the wrong guy.
On Friday, Stephen A. Smith dropped an incredible stat which shows just how much more successful Caldwell has been compared to Patricia.
Smith noted that Patricia could win his next 24 games with the Lions and he would still have a lower winning percentage than Caldwell had.
*Note: Smith’s numbers are off as Caldwell’s winning percentage the Lions was .563, and if Patricia win the next 24 games, his win percentage with the Lions would be .565, but I think you get the point.
