Could Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman be getting ready to make his first big splash since his homecoming last month?

If he pulls this off, it would be another homecoming of sorts. Reports have indicated that the Red Wings have inquired about the availability of Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba.

According to The Athletic‘s Murat Ates, the Red Wings have expressed interest in the Rochester, MI native. The Jets are also reportedly willing to listen to an offer from Detroit.

Ates indicated that the Red Wings aren’t willing to part with young defenseman Filip Hronek:

“Murat stated that the Red Wings said that Filip Hronek is completely off the table, but Winnipeg has inquired about some draft picks. The Red Wings have three 2nd round picks this upcoming draft and would be willing to part ways with one or two of them to acquire Trouba.”

Should Steve Yzerman pull the trigger?
