We have some absolutely stunning news to break this morning and it is going to send shockwaves through Hockeytown, along with the entire NHL.
According to a source of Detroit Sports Nation, Steve Yzerman has made the stunning decision to step down as general manager of the Detroit Red Wings.
Yzerman explained that due to a recent decision by Red Wings owner Chris Ilitch to terminate long-time Red Wings Zamboni driver Al Sobotka, he just could not move forward in his role with the organization.
“I was shocked when I found out what Chris did to Al (Sobotka),” Yzerman said early Friday morning. “It is a decision I cannot get behind, or accept, therefore, I am stepping down as general manager.”
Yzerman went on to explain that this was just the final straw for him as he really is not a big fan of Ilitch.
“A man can only take so much,” Yzerman added. “Everybody knows that Chris Ilitch is the worst owner in sports and, to be honest, he is a complete tool. Chris terminating Al because he slapped him in the face with an octopus was just the final straw for me.”
Yzerman, as we know, played 22 seasons with the Red Wings before retiring from the NHL. He has been GM of the Red Wings since April 19, 2019.
More to come but………
