Struggling Detroit Lions S Will Harris: “I’m trying my best”

Can Will Harris turn things around?

The Detroit Lions drafted safety Will Harris 81st overall in 2019 out of Boston College, and were comfortable enough with his play to make the stunning decision to trade Quandre Diggs to Seattle.

However, Harris hasn't been the suitable replacement for Diggs that the team envisioned.

So far in 2020, Harris hasn't performed up to expectations (and to be fair, neither have most of his teammates and coaches). Currently ranked 70th overall out of the 73 safeties in the NFL through two weeks of 2020, Harris is doing his best to rebound and get back into the form that his teammates expect, and what he expects of himself.

“I take a lot of pride in not being that person to negatively affect a team,” Harris said. “Obviously, I care a lot about that. That’s been addressed with my teammates, with myself. I’ve tried over the past week to address that with myself as well.

“It’s just something to learn from, and that’s nothing that my team has to worry about.”

He didn't help his case when two consecutive personal fouls gave the Green Bay Packers 30 yards, leading directly to points on the board.

“It’s definitely not ideal to go out there and have back-to-back penalties,” Harris said. “But at the same time, it’s a violent game, it’s a fast game when you’re out there. Things happen. Do you intentionally want to go out there and do something that causes a penalty? No. But at the same time, you try to stay away from those things, and sometimes they happen, and the goal is to see why and how they happen, and to not let them happen again so that it won’t negatively affect the game.”

Lions fans, can Harris turn things around in 2020?
