WATCH: Petr Mrazek comes up big on the PK to secure shutout vs. Capitals

On November 10, 2015, the Detroit Red Wings hosted the Washington Capitals at Joe Louis Arena. It was the first meeting of the season between both teams. Andreas Athanasiou scored his first NHL goal early in the third period on a sharp angled shot that squeaked through Capitals goalie, Braden Holtby‘s right pad. The story of the game though was the phenomenal play in net by Red Wings goalie, Petr Mrazek. 38 totals save were made by the young, talented Czechoslovakian as Mrazek secured the shutout as well in his effort against the Caps. Forward, Alexander Ovechkin unleashed 15 total shots on goal, but not one got past him once the game had concluded.

Late in the third period, he came up big time for Detroit, when Washington saw themselves head to a power play with a little over five minutes left to go in regulation. The Caps had five shots on goal during the man advantage, with Petr standing his ground in net through all the attempts.

It was one heck of a performance in goal for Petr Mrazek, especially given the offensive firepower that the Washington Capitals had on their roster.
