Weekly recap of the Detroit Tigers’ farm system

Hello, Nation. It has been two weeks since our last recap of the minor league play in the Detroit Tigers organization. But we’re back to our regular Monday breakdown.

The Tigers have made some rather significant moves lately from their minor league squads. They recently called up outfielder Tyler Collins from Triple-A Toledo to add some bench depth. And yesterday, they purchased the contract of shortstop Dixon Machado from Toledo as well, after starter Kyle Lobstein was placed on the 15-day DL with a shoulder problem. Machado was hitting .274 with Toledo and was second on the team in hits, and will more than likely be sent back down before Detroit plays on Thursday against the Los Angeles Angels, as Toledo Mud Hens starter and Tigers prospect Buck Farmer will make his season debut in place of Lobstein.

Let’s see how the rest of the Tigers’ farm system has been doing lately.

Weekly recap of the Tigers’ farm system

The Detroit Tigers had a rough week this week. They lost two games out of three each against two division rivals, including at home against the 1st place Kansas City Royals. Tigers prospect Kyle Lobstein continues to pitch very well in the void left by Justin Verlander. Normally a starter for the Toledo Mud Hens down in Triple-A, Lobstein is 3-2 with an ERA of 3.00 in five starts for the Tigers this season. Let’s see how his teammates down in Toledo as well as the rest of the farm system has fared this past week.

Let’s take a look at how the Tigers’ farm system played out this week.

Weekly recap of Tigers’ farm system

We continue our weekly segment on the Detroit Tigers minor league system recap. Detroit went 3-4 this week, including their first series loss of the season to the New York Yankees. However, starting pitcher Kyle Lobstein has pitched admirably in place of Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, who continues to rehab while on the disabled list. Lobstein (2-1, 3.50 ERA) has given Detroit a chance to win every ball game he has started in, which is just what Tigers manager Brad Ausmus wants to see. Lobstein, who was expected to start down in Triple-A all season long, is already making a big impact with Detroit, showing that he has the potential to be a big league starting pitcher every fifth day.

Let’s see how Lobstein’s Triple-A teammates as well as the rest of the Tigers’ farm system has fared this past week.

Weekly recap of Tigers’ farm system

The 2015 Detroit Tigers are off to a historic start, having won ten of their first twelve contests. They have now won each of their first four series on the season, including a record of 8-1 against teams from their own division. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus is pushing all the right buttons so far, after going through a spring where he had to answer a lot of questions about different areas of his ball club. So far, he has already had to call up pitchers Blaine Hardy and Kyle Lobstein from Triple-A to fill in for injured pitchers Joe Nathan and Justin Verlander. All in all though, Ausmus really could not have asked for a better start to the season.
