The Detroit Tigers just finished off back-to-back sweeps of the Minnesota Twins and the Cleveland Indians to start off the 2015 campaign. With a 6-0 record the Tigers are off to a great start, but is their early dominance a sign of things to come or just some early season wishful thinking?
Miguel Cabrera started off slow in the first 3 game series against the Minnesota Twins by hitting only .182. Then he traveled to Cleveland and everything started to fall into place. The weather was warmer, he seems to love playing against Cleveland, and it looks like he is finally 100% healthy. Over his career he has … Read more
The Detroit Tigers open up a 3 game interleague series today against the Pittsburgh Pirates. For the second straight series the Tigers are guest to another team’s home opener. This Wednesday is also the celebration of Jackie Robinson Day where all the players from every team in baseball honor Mr. Robinson by wearing the number 42 jersey. The Tigers come into the Pirates series firing on all cylinders, riding a season opening 6 game win steak. The Tigers starting pitching and bullpen has had a great start to this young season, giving the Tigers hitters the opportunities to be patient at the plate. A major downside to the Tigers playing in Pittsburgh, is the loss of the designated hitter, Victor Martinez. Usually if V-Mart and Miguel Cabrera were 100% healthy coming into the season, the Tigers would have been able to keep V-Mart in the line up by having him play first and shifting Cabrera to third. V-Mart will still be available for the pinch hit cameo during the series.

They swept the Minnesota Twins at home, and won the first of a 3-game set on the road against the Cleveland Indians on Friday. Part of the early success so far has been designated hitter Victor Martinez, who has reached base safely in eight of his first 18 plate appearances. On Monday when the team starts their 3-game interleague match-up against the Pittsburgh Pirates, they may have to tweak their lineup a bit.
