Russell Westbrook scores 48, hits game-tying half court buzzer-beater

And here we thought the Pistons and Bulls had the Game of the Night on lock.

While most of the basketball faction here at DSN was locked in to the Pistons’ impressive overtime victory over Chicago, the rest of the basketball world was treated not only to the Game of the Night, but also an early season nominee for Game of the Year between the Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder.

We’ll cut to the good stuff.

First, with under 10 seconds remaining of a tie ball game, Magic guard Victor Oladipo stepped back and drilled a go-ahead 3-pointer. With no time-outs remaining, Thunder guard Russell Westbrook was forced to go the length of the court, or at least half of it, where he uncorked a 44-foot game-tying, overtime-inducing buzzer-beater.

But the heroics were just getting started.

Moments later, near the conclusion of the first overtime, it was the Magic who trailed by three. This time, it was Oladipo’s turn to answer:

The Thunder eventually emerged as 139-136 winners in double overtime, with Westbrook’s 48-point tally combining with teammate Kevin Durant’s 43 for a whopping 91 points between them.

Welcome back, NBA. We missed you.
