UPDATED: Ottawa’s Mark Stone to have hearing after hitting Red Wings’ Ferraro (w/ VIDEO)

UPDATE: Stone has been assessed a 2-game suspension for the hit on Ferraro, as stated by the NHL Department of Player Safety.


Original story: The NHL will have a hearing tomorrow with Ottawa Senators forward Mark Stone after he delivered an illegal high hit to the head of Detroit Red Wings forward Landon Ferraro. Ferraro appeared a bit woozy after the hit, but would return to the game. Stone is not a repeat offender and has not been suspended in his 3+ year NHL career. You can see a clip of the hit above.

Preview: Stanley Cup Playoffs quarterfinal round full analysis

The chase for the Stanley Cup is quickly approaching, and the first round of the playoffs is filled with entertaining series’ that should make for a very exciting opening round. There will be seven teams competing in this years Stanley Cup Playoffs who missed the playoffs last season, including four Canadian teams (Ottawa, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Vancouver.) The defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Los Angeles Kings will not have an opportunity to defend the cup. The Kings are the first team since the 2006 Carolina Hurricanes to win the cup and miss the playoffs the following season.

While they were unable to clinch a playoff berth with the Ottawa Senators defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins, the win drops their magic number to 2. They need only a single win in their last two games, or a point in each game in any fashion. They also clinch if Ottawa loses in regulation in either of their last two games, or loses in OT or a shootout in both remaining games.

The Detroit Red Wings can clinch a playoff spot for a staggering 24th consecutive season on Tuesday night when they host the Carolina Hurricanes in the last home game of the 2014-15 regular season.
