That third period of hockey was one for the memory bank. With their season on the line, the Red Wings threw everything they had at the Sharks and came from behind in improbable fashion to send the series back to Motown for Game 6.
It felt fitting to borrow a line from one of Detroit’s icons, Eminem, to succinctly sum up the end of that game. It was a frantic, chaotic, messy, and exciting end to a game that saw the Wings go up three goals early, give up a goal in each of the three periods to square it up, before Darren Helm caused the Joe Louis Arena’s top to blow.
Tonight, the Red Wings saw their season best 5 game winning streak snapped on home ice against a team that has struggled at the Joe in their 20 year history. Tonight’s win gave San Jose something like a 6-30 record in Detroit since their inception in 1991. It was a pair of players riding hot streaks that got the job done for the Sharks late in the game to give them the win.
