WATCH: Tigers’ prospect Derek Hill makes catch ‘Willie Mays’ style

I didn’t know the Tigers had a descendant of Willie Mays in their farm system, but I guess it is one reason why 20-year-old Derek Hill is regarded as one of their top prospects.

Hill and his West Michigan Whitecaps were on the road this weekend taking on the Cubs of South Bend, riding an impressive nine-game winning streak. In the middle of a 1-0 Friday game with one on and one out in the 4th, Hill is forced to run down a ball deep to center, back turned to home plate, only to make a spectacular over-the-shoulder catch.

Hill then quickly turns and fires it back into the field to his cutoff man to double off the runner at first base, who was on his way to third base on the play. The eye-catching, inning-ending double play without question help preserve their lead as the Whitecaps went on to win their 10th straight game, 2-1.
