On Monday, Detroit Tigers rookie pitcher Tarik Skubal will take the mound against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a team-record within reach.
You see, Skubal currently has 187 strikeouts in 34 career games (31 starts) and he is on pace to break the Tigers record for the fastest to get to 200 strikeouts.
As it stands, according to Motor City Bengals, Michael Fulmer currently holds the Tigers’ record as he recorded 200 strikeouts in the first 40 games of his career, which began in 2016.
Will Skubal break the record on Labor Day? Probably not as his career-high is 11 (June 12 against the White Sox).
That being said, barring injury, the record will be Skubal’s by the end of the 2021 season.
