And in doing so, he became the first Tigers rookie pitcher in 87 years to achieve one particular accomplishment.
He's the first rookie pitcher since Schoolboy Rowe in 1933 to have recorded 8+ strikeouts with no walks in one of his first six career outings.
Lynwood Thomas Rowe, known by his nickname of “Schoolboy”, was a three-time All-Star and a member of three Tigers World Series winning squads in 1934, 1935 and 1940. He primarily donned the Old English D, and also saw time playing in the majors with Philadelphia Phillies.
Originally drafted by the Tigers in 2018, Skubal made his MLB debut last month, and would later earn his first career win against the Minnesota Twins.
