After months of rumors and Easter eggs, Taylor Swift has finally broken her silence on why she won’t be performing at Super Bowl LX, and it has everything to do with her relationship with Travis Kelce.

Swift Clears the Air on Fallon

Appearing Monday night on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Swift addressed months of speculation linking her to the Super Bowl halftime show at Levi’s Stadium next February. Many fans were convinced it was only a matter of when, not if, she’d take the stage, especially after her recent cryptic references to “sourdough” and “60” during her New Heights appearance.

But instead, the NFL went in another direction, naming Bad Bunny as the official performer.

So why didn’t Swift say yes?

“Jay-Z has always been very good to me. Our [business] teams are really close,” Swift explained, referring to Roc Nation, which works with the NFL to produce the halftime show.

“They sometimes will call and say, ‘How does she feel about [something]. And that’s not, like, an official offer or a conference-room conversation. And we’re always able to tell him the truth, which is that I am in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field.”

“I’m Too Locked In”

Swift didn’t mince words when explaining her mindset during the NFL season.

“Like, [football] is violent chess. That is gladiators without swords,” Swift said. “The whole season, I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field. Can you imagine if he’s out there every single week putting his life on the line doing this very dangerous, very high-pressure, high-intensity sport, and I’m like, ‘I wonder what my choreo should be?’”

She added that Kelce would love for her to do the show, but her focus right now isn’t on choreography, it’s on cheering from the suite.

“This has nothing to do with Travis. He would love for me to do it. I am just too locked in,” Swift said.

The Bottom Line

For now, it looks like the Eras Tour queen will remain a Super Bowl spectator, not a performer, at least until she’s ready to trade her luxury suite view for the halftime stage lights.
