TBT: DeAndre Levy’s hit on RG3

3 Min Read

detroit-lions-logoLast season, Week 2 of the preseason to be exact, The Detroit Lions did battle with the Washington Redskins. Quarterback, Robert Griffin III gave quite a quote earlier in the week, prior to the Week 2 matchup with the Lions. He said “I feel like I’m the best quarterback in the league, and I have to go out and show that”. Well, things didn’t go well at all for RG3 in the game. He was under constant pressure from the Lions’ defense unit, making it seemingly impossible to get anything positive going for the Redskins’ offense.

One play in particular really showed how horrid Washington’s offensive line was playing in front of RG3.

LevyWith just under six minutes left to play in the first quarter, Griffin III dropped back to pass and practically the entire left side of the offensive line was wide open. That’s when linebacker, DeAndre Levy came barreling in and laid quite the a hit on the young quarterback. RG3 would be helped up from the hit by his teammates and was visibly feeling the effects of the hit Levy had just put on him. Not too long after, Griffin III would ultimately leave the game with a concussion after a Lions defensive lineman fell on him after he fumbled the football and dove at it in an attempt to regain possession. It wasn’t a good evening for the Redskins and RG3 as a whole, even though they ended up winning the game by a score of 21-17, they lost their starting quarterback in the process.

Griffin III was later replaced as the starting quarterback by former Michigan State University quarterback, Kirk Cousins who went on to set quite a few Redskins franchise passing records during the 2015 regular season. I guess, in reality, the quote from RG3 was nothing more than ‘hype’ in the long run. Sure, he cannot be blamed for everything that went wrong, especially being that it was only the preseason and he didn’t have much help from his offensive line, but when you say something like that, you have to back it up regardless of what’s around you.

Born & raised in the mitten. Grew up in Traverse City, but moved down to the Redford, MI area after my Dad tragically passed away in 1999 because that's where he was being buried and we wanted to be down there with him. I'm an avid Detroit sports fan, growing up in the state of Michigan and having such a solid block of teams to root for is something special. Iv'e always liked discussing Detroit sports whether it be about the past, the present or even what the future holds for Michigan sports teams. It's a long time coming as I am very excited to be apart of the DSN team and be able to construct interesting features to be posted for Detroit Sports fans to read/discuss about.
