The Detroit Lions are bringing back a familiar veteran presence to their quarterback room.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Teddy Bridgewater is returning to the Lions, rejoining the team after previously spending time in Detroit earlier in his career.
Bridgewater, 33, is one of the league’s most respected veteran quarterbacks and brings valuable experience to Detroit’s roster as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

A veteran with extensive NFL experience
Originally selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, Bridgewater has enjoyed a lengthy NFL career that has included stops with several teams across the league.
Over 83 career games, Bridgewater has compiled:
- 15,182 passing yards
- 75 touchdown passes
- 66.3% completion percentage
- 33–32 career record as a starter
Throughout his career, Bridgewater has also spent time with the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
What this means for Detroit
By bringing Bridgewater back, Detroit adds a steady veteran presence behind starting quarterback Jared Goff.
Known for his leadership, preparation, and professionalism, Bridgewater has long been viewed as one of the NFL’s most respected backup quarterbacks. His familiarity with the Lions’ organization and coaching staff should make for a smooth transition back into Detroit’s quarterback room.
The Lions now have an experienced signal-caller ready if his number is called.
