The Buffalo Sabres new owner, Terry Pegula, came in promising to do what it takes to bring a Stanley Cup to Buffalo. He made a big move to back up his talk tonight, trading for former 43 goal scorer Brad Boyes.
I had speculated earlier today that Boyes could be on his way out of town, and that Tampa Bay could be a potential home for him. Buffalo ponied up more than I figured Tampa would be willing to give to make the deal happen, so kudos to them for ponying up and getting the player they wanted.
Buffalo sends their 2011 second round pick to the Blues. Boyes, who scored 43 goals in 2008, has had his offensive production dip for three seasons in a row. Perhaps a fresh start in Buffalo will breath some life back into his game.
Boyes isn’t your typical “rental” player you normally see acquired at the deadline, as he is signed through 2012. I wouldn’t be surprised if Buffalo signs him to a contract extension in the near future.
