Texas Tech too much for Michigan State

A Tough Fight

Michigan State and Texas Tech both came out showcasing dominate defense.

Senior Matt McQuaid paced the Spartans early with 9 points as Michigan State tried to analyze the Red Raider’s attack.

Both teams struggled to put points on the board as Texas Tech held a 23-21 lead at halftime despite only one point from star Jarrett Culver.

The pace picked up as Michigan State, and Texas Tech combined for 16 points early in the second half.

With 14:43 remaining Texas Tech Senior Tariq Owens left the game with a leg injury. The Red Raiders responded led by guards Kyler Edwards and Matt Mooney to extend their lead to 45-33.

With back to back three point shots from Cassius Winston and Xavier Tillman, Michigan State cut the Texas Tech lead to 50-41.

With the Red Raiders lead at 52-45 Michigan State's McQuaid went to the sideline after rolling his ankle.

A Little Hope

Michigan State battled back. Two Aaron Henry free throws and a driving layup cut the Texas Tech lead to 52-51. Jarrett Culver responded with a nice floater to put the Red Raiders back up three with just over two minutes remaining.

A three-point shot by Culver put Texas Tech up 58-51 with 58 seconds remaining.

Michigan State could not respond as Texas Tech advanced to the National Championship with a 61-51 victory.
