With Matthew Stafford requesting to be traded and the Detroit Lions reportedly trying their best to make that happen, the big question is, who will be their starting quarterback in Week 1 of the 2021 regular season?
Well, in my opinion, the answer to that question became pretty easy to answer when the Lions hired Anthony Lynn to be their offensive coordinator.
Lynn was head coach of the Chargers from 2017-2020 before being fired following the 2020 season. Prior to coaching the Chargers, Lynn spent two seasons with the Buffalo Bills.
During each of those stints, Lynn worked with who I believe will be the Lions starting QB to begin the 2021 season.
That quarterback is Tyrod Taylor.
Taylor, who is 31, has only started a total of four games over the past three seasons but he did start 29 games while he and Lynn were both with the Bills. In those two seasons together in Buffalo, Taylor completed 62.6% of his passes for 6,058 yards and 37 touchdowns to go along with just 12 interceptions. In fact, he was selected to play in the Pro Bowl following the 2015 season.
If I were the Lions, I would sign Taylor to run the show and to help bring along a rookie quarterback, whether that rookie QB be selected in the 2021 or 2022 NFL Draft.
