The 2021 NFL Draft is in the books and we now have a pretty good idea about what the Detroit Lions starting lineup will look like when the season begins.
That being said, the Lions still have plenty of holes (both starting positions and backups), and there is a solid chance that they add a couple of free agents prior to the start of the 2021 season.
According to Albert Breer, the Lions have some money to spend on free agents if they want to as they currently have $21.04 million in cap space, which is the fifth-most in the NFL.
Nation, who are some free agents the Lions should consider?
… And the teams with the most space, as of this morning.
1) Jags $38.83M
2) Jets $24.58M
3) Broncos $23.21M
4) Bengals $22.15M
5) Lions $21.04M
6) Browns $20.57M
7) Chargers $19.40M
8) 49ers $17.86M
9) Patriots $14.97M
10) Panthers $14.64M— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) May 19, 2021
I would be fine with the Lions holding on to most or all of their cap space funds and rolling it over into next year. They have so many players on one year deals and could use that cap money to extend those players that do well this season. They also could look at additional free agents for needed holes at that time. Nothing wrong with saving some and seeing what is needed moving forward.
