In case you have not been following closely to all of the cuts around the NFL as teams try to get down to 53 players by 4 p.m. ET today, former Michigan kicker Quinn Nordin has reportedly won the kicking job with the New England Patriots after an impressive preseason.
But Nordin winning the job is not why we are here.
Instead, it is about who Nordin beat out for the job in New England. That player is Nick Folk.
Despite connecting on 40 of 45 field goals with the Patriots during the past two seasons, he is reportedly going to be waived in favor of Nordin.
Well, guess what? Our Detroit Lions need a kicker and Folk could be the answer to their prayers.
Though he is 36 years old, Folk proved in 2020 that he still has plenty of gas left in the tank as he drilled 26 out of 28 field-goal attempts for the Patriots.
Is Folk going to go out and blast 55+ yard field goals like he did earlier in his career? No. But can be be the consistent kicker the Lions need as a bridge to the future? Absolutely.
Do not be surprised at all if the Lions acquire Folk.
But Clarkston HS and Pitt’s kicker is also available Kessman is available. He did a brief stint with the Chargers in preseason (where it looks like they have a holder problem)
