On Saturday, Detroit Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp announced that she was relieving head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn of their duties, effective immediately.
Now, the Lions will be charged with the task of hiring both a new general manager and a new head coach during the same offseason. The last time the franchise had to hire both positions in the same offseason was nearly 20 years ago when it hired Matt Millen as GM and Marty Mornhinweg as head coach.

As you probably remember, Mornhinweg proceeded to coach the Lions for the next two seasons (2001-2002), where he led the team to an abysmal 5-27 record before being fired.
Millen, on the other hand, got much more time as he spent 7+ seasons in Detroit before mercifully being shown the door. During his time as general manager, the Lions went 31-84, making him one of the worst GMs in professional sports history.
Let’s hope things go much better this time around!
