NFL teams have to trim their rosters down to 53 by Saturday at 4 p.m. ET and The Washington Football Team has reportedly made a shocking decision to release RB Adrian Peterson.
Tom Pelissero notes that with Antonio Gibson emerging, combined with former Detroit Lions RB J.D. McKissic and Peyton Barber, there was no role available for Peterson.
In 2019, Peterson rushed for 898 yards on 211 carries (4.3 ypc) while scoring five touchdowns.
A surprise: The Washington Football Team is releasing legendary RB Adrian Peterson, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo.

Ron Rivera valued Adrian Peterson’s leadership as he set the program. But with Antonio Gibson emerging and the likes of J.D. McKissic and Peyton Barber also having strong camps, there just was no role for Peterson, who intends to keep climbing the all-time rushing list elsewhere. https://t.co/Or690mHNRD
