3 reasons the Detroit Tigers WILL win the 2016 World Series

Francisco Rodriguez

The bullpen has been an issue for the Detroit Tigers for quite some time now. Performance aside, Detroit players and fans could use a dose of confidence regarding relief pitching. With many fans calling for a complete overhaul of the bullpen new GM Al Avila nearly fulfilled that request. The bullpen got a facelift with new closer Francisco “K Rod” Rodriguez, Mark Lowe, and Justin Wilson.

Rodriguez is a respected, solid, and veteran closer who will hold down the 9th inning for Detroit. K Rod boasts a 2.66 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and 82 saves over the past two seasons. He will be a key player on the road to a championship for the Tigers.

Set up pitchers Mark Lowe and Justin Wilson will also be excellent additions. Lowe recorded a 1.96 ERA in 2015 and will even be available if need be to close out some games. Wilson brings a high-90s fastball in relief and will be solid in hold opportunities before turning the game over to Rodriguez. Drew VerHagen and Kyle Ryan are still in the mix to round out the bullpen. Even Bruce Rondon is still getting a shot with the team; mostly due to his triple-digit fastball and not his famous temper.

The point is: the bullpen is full of new faces. Fans asked for it and Al Avila delivered. Look for this squad of pitchers to come together and unite behind Rodriguez to give the starters the support they so richly deserve.
