Throwback Thursday: Ameer Abdullah’s first NFL carry leads to pay dirt [Video]

Detroit Lions second year tailback, Ameer Abdullah has been really vocal about the running game this off-season. He’s said he is taking it as a ‘personal challenge’ in regards to the Lions’ improving things in 2016.

With the emergence of fellow tailback Theo Riddick last season and the newly acquired Stevan Ridley, I’m sure Abdullah knows he has a lot to prove if he wants to hold onto the starting running back spot.

There was a lot of hype surrounding Abdullah coming out of college. He rushed for a tad over 4,500 yards in his career while attending the University of Nebraska.

Being a reliable receiver out of the backfield and even being able to contribute in the return game seemed to give him more added value transitioning from college to the professional level. The Lions would select Abdullah in the 2nd round, pick 54 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft.

The preseason provided some extremely bright moments for Abdullah as he broke many long runs and put on a few juke moves in the process. Even though it was only the preseason, the hype was growing more and more each second for the rookie running back.

Once the regular season got underway, many many Lions fan were anxious to see what Ameer would be able to do on the NFL gridiron now that the games actually mattered.

His first career NFL carry was something special to see.

Take a look…

This run gave us all hope, but during the course of the season, it was more of just a flash in the pan type deal than anything else. Inconsistency plagued Adbullah over the course of the 2015 season. He wouldn’t record another rushing touchdown until Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football and was fumble prone in the process as well.

Not the kind of productivity you want to see out of a lead back.

Ameer Abdullah is a phenomenal talent. I truly hope that what he is saying about the run game transitions onto the field this season and we see him live up to the caliber of player he is capable of being in the NFL.

What do you think, Nation, what can we expect from Ameer Abdullah this season?
