Throwback Tuesday: Darren Helm’s OT goal sends Wings to SCF


In honor of the Detroit Red Wings’ matchup with their former central division rival Chicago Blackhawks tonight, let’s take a look back at some happier times for the Wings.

Flashback to the 2009 Western Conference Finals. Detroit held a 3-1 lead in the series going into Game 5 at Joe Louis Arena. The teams traded third-period goals and headed to overtime, when speedster Darren Helm scored at the side of the net to propel Detroit to their second straight Stanley Cup Final appearance, and sending the Joe Louis Arena faithful into a frenzy.
